Our Story

Brief History of Snaith Salad Growers Ltd

The Land Settlement Association (LSA) was set up by the UK government in 1934, to encourage agricultural workers to start their own holding, they were offered a home to rent, a piggery a greenhouse and approx. 5 acres of land. Snaith was one of the LSA Estates.

In 1983 the government closed the scheme, Snaith Estate formed a grower owned co-operative with 35 members, they bought their holdings from the LSA, and were privatised and became Snaith Salad Growers Ltd.

This gave them the confidence to invest in modern glasshouses, replacing old ones. They built a warehouse and coldstore, updating and adding as needed.
SSG were joined by further old LSA estates, in the Cambridge area, 2 of them still remain with us today. SSG were becoming a major supplier of salads to the UK.

Cut to the current day,  still committed to investing to make SSG futureproof, always interested in renewable cleaner energy, recently having had solar panels fitted to half of the warehouse roof, with a plan to install more.

Building greenhouse in the coming months & renting more glass on the estate SSG are always looking to innovate, looking at new growing mediums & methods trialling new varieties their customers.
